This third volume in the Encyclopedia of Wargames series takes vehicle painting for wargames to the next level. While the previous book focused on fast and effective techniques for quickly getting models onto the tabletop, this edition is dedicated to more advanced, time-consuming methods that prioritize realism and high-quality finishes. It bridges the gap between traditional scale modeling—known for authentic colors and weathering—and wargaming aesthetics, which often favor clean, vivid schemes, while also introducing a broader range of weathering styles.
This volume highlights the importance of using a wide range of modeling products—acrylics, enamels, oils, lacquers, and pigments—to achieve varied and realistic effects, applying each one patiently and in carefully built layers. To avoid repetition, this publication does not re-explain techniques covered in the previous volume; therefore, it is recommended that both books be used together as reference material. However, this volume does demonstrate how to use certain products and techniques from the previous book with greater finesse in order to achieve more refined and realistic results. In particular, it explores the use of oil paints to create a wide range of effects, or simply to enhance a paint job by increasing contrast, volume, and visual interest.
